Aerospace Engineering Research Centre, University of Bath

The Aerospace Engineering Research Centre (AERC) was established in 2007 within the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Research is focused on the core disciplines of fluid dynamics and thermodynamics. All of the main areas of aerospace engineering are covered comprehensively. with particular expertise covering aerodynamics, propulsion and aero structures.

There is a balanced mix of experimental and computational capabilities and enabling technologies in these areas include:

• The development of flow modelling techniques
• Flow diagnostics methods
• Analysis and testing of composite and metallic wing structures
• Development of aeroelastic and structural optimisation methods

Some of the companies funding research in the AERC are Airbus UK, Flight Refuelling, US Air Force, Ministry of Defence, Alstom Power, Siemens, BAE Systems and Qinetiq.
