BRE Centre for Innovative Construction Materials, University of Bath

The BRE Centre for Innovative Construction Materials (CICM) was established in 2006 as a collaborative partnership between the University of Bath's Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Building Research Establishment (BRE).

BRE CICM conducts leading research, development and consultancy in the field of innovative and sustainable construction materials. Current research activity includes work in the areas of:

  • Advanced composites in construction
  • Natural fibre composite materials
  • Timber materials and engineering
  • Structural masonry
  • Lime based building materials
  • Unfired clay/earth building materials
  • Conservation of historic structures
  • Renewable building materials
  • Geotextiles in construction
  • Reuse and recycling of building materials
  • Structural uses of stainless steel
  • Lightweight materials and structures
  • Low carbon cements

Many of the Centre's projects involve collaboration with industrial partners and new approaches from organisations seeking to develop work on innovative construction materials are welcomed.
