The Centre for Innovative Manufacture and Machine Vision Systems (CIMMS) provides a focus for fundamental and applied research aimed at developing state of the art technologies and systems.

Researchers in CIMMS have links with industry and other research centres within the UK and abroad. Recent grants have been awarded for research by the EPSRC, DTI and the EU.
A large part of the interests of CIMMS is represented by the Machine Vision Laboratory (MVL), which has rapidly established a reputation as a world-leading centre of excellence. This has been realised by developing techniques that focus on increased system flexibility, offer potential for greater use of portable or hand-held technology and reduce the need for rigorous structuring of the imaging environment through more 'intelligent' processing.
