The Food Refrigeration and Process Engineering Research Centre, University of Bristol

The Food Refrigeration and Process Engineering Research Centre (FRPERC) is a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, scientists, engineers and technologists providing expert solutions to the food and associated industries. 

The Centre's personnel have extensive experience gained over the past 35 years in all aspects of food refrigeration, cooking and processing. During this period they have developed strong links with the food industry and have vast experience of solving problems within food manufacturing and engineering operations. Activities of the FRPERC include:

  • Food production and processing and the relationship of these to food quality
  • Safety and the economics of food production
  • Refrigeration, processing, decontamination and equipment optimisation

FRPERC regularly organises training courses on subjects related to its research, as well as seminars, workshops and conferences. It has a wide range of facilities, including plant for trials and facilities for both building and testing new plant and testing existing equipment. Food and public health microbiologists are also available on site, as is an analytical laboratory skilled in food analysis.
