Centre for Public Health Research, University of the West of England

The Centre for Public Health Research seeks to encourage national improvements in public health by adding to the body of evidence underpinning such advances. It is interdisciplinary in nature, integrating expertise from many backgrounds including:

  • Social scientists 
  • Public health and health promotion specialists 
  • Epidemiologists
  • Health economists

The Centre’s interests are wide in scope and focus on a range of settings and target groups. These include: 

  • Community health and well-being 
  • Life-course approaches
  • Individual and population public health interventions 
  • Vulnerable groups

The Centre hosts the European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Drugs (ESPAD) and the Gender, Alcohol and Culture: an International Study (GENACIS). 

The Centre has a track record in delivering applied research relevant to public health with particular strengths in evaluation of community interventions, school based interventions, patient and public involvement, public health workforce development, young people, health promotion, drugs, alcohol and prison health.
