Place is a visual art research centre that looks at issues of place, location, context and environment. Through its projects, programmes, research and partnerships, place addresses recent progressive theorisations of place through a consideration of contemporary visual art.
Led by researchers at Bristol School of Art, Media and Design, place is committed to investigating, testing, imagining and analysing the following fields of research:
Through joint and individual projects, practice-based colloquia and symposia, members of place have examined the role and value of public, performative and site-specific art. They have explored the ways in which memory and national identity are formed and critiqued through a wide range of visual media, exhibitions, commissions and published works.
