The Software Systems Research Centre takes a multi-disciplinary approach to computing. Its two principle areas of focus include

• Development
• Application of innovative modeling and tools
• Technologies for software systems

The Centre has particular interest in those often neglected 'upstream' aspects of software engineering that have a major impact on software development practice, such as moving from business perspectives, through requirements, to software design. Research interests include:

• Object-oriented software engineering
• Analysis and design
• Web systems / development methods 
• Software modelling (including the UML)
• Business process modelling
• Requirements engineering
• Alignment of IT strategy with business goals
• Model driven architecture
• Domain Specific Languages
