Established in 1994, the Centre for Water Systems (CWS) aims to meet a real need for research into water systems engineering. The key challenge of supporting and developing sustainable water management is strongly addressed by the Centre’s activities, including:
CWS has gained a strong national and international reputation and has been particularly successful in winning funding from UK and EU sources. It also has an established history of cross-disciplinary research into hydroinformatics and urban water.
This includes expertise in hydraulics, systems analysis, modelling, simulation, optimisation, decision support systems, evolutionary computing, data mining and other computational techniques.
CWS has a complement of up to personnel at any one time making this the largest UK group in the field and one of the largest worldwide. It brings together researchers from civil, environmental, computational and other areas of engineering.
