Arvind Shanmukham from Mumbai in India came to the Faculty of Technology at the University of Plymouth to study for an MSc in Network Systems Engineering. He tell us how his MSc has helped him with his work as well as how much he enjoyed his time in Plymouth.
“After completing my Commerce degree in India I wanted to expand my knowledge of IT. The MSc Network Systems Engineering seemed to offer just what I was looking for, covering both IT and Telecom Networks. Plymouth was one of only two universities offering this Masters, the other being in the USA. I chose Plymouth largely because it had better recognition. Indeed, within my company the Network Systems Engineering Masters is held in very high regard.
Thanks to my MSc I am now working as an IT Manager for a stockbrokers in India. My job involves planning, designing, implementing and maintaining new IT projects that will help accelerate the Company’s growth in its market sector. We are currently in the process of a major upgrade.
The work I did for my MSc has certainly come in very handy. Technically, it has helped me acquire knowledge on both IT and Telecom networks – you need to know this because you must understand how each work and integrate in today’s world. Also, having studied the basics already makes it much easier to quickly understand new technology as it emerges. Added to this I love Plymouth and very much enjoyed my time in the south west.”
