HERDA-SW has been working in partnership with Research TV, a specialist film production and distribution company, on a project called 'Video SW'. Through the project 15 collaborative news stories were developed to communicate research activity in South West England. These stories were distributed through national and international news channels to stimulate a greater public understanding of research and innovation. Due to the success of the Video SW project, representatives from the region were invited by the European Commission to exhibit their work at an international conference called 'Communicating International Research' (CER) which was held in Brussels on the 14th and 15th November 2005. This was a unique opportunity to promote the 14 Universities and Colleges of South West England and to learn from more than 2500 speakers, exhibitors and delegates who attended the event. The films feature a wide range of new and emerging technologies, and cover the following business sectors: Advanced Engineering, Biotechnology, Creative Industries, Environmental Technologies, Health, Food and Drink, ICT and Marine. Video SW was a part of the Inspire South West programme to promote innovation in South West England, which was jointly funded by the South West Regional Development Agency and the European Commission, as part of the EU 'Innovation Actions' Programme. The opportunity to take part in the CER event was recognised by the South West UK Brussels Office, who work to support the European dimension of activities in South West England.
