South West HEIs host South African High Commissioner

UWE yesterday hosted a visit by the South African High Commissioner, Dr Lindiwe Mabuza, aimed at showcasing the work of the region’s higher education institutions and looking at future collaborations with South Africa. Representatives from the region’s HEIs gave presentations on some of the current collaborative activity including the Higher Skills project, Great Western Research, the South West Peninsula Clinical Research Collaboration, the corporate social responsibility project and the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement based in Bristol. The High Commissioner also gave an introduction to higher education activity in South Africa and the group then looked at synergies and opportunities for working together. This visit paves the way for a partnership between the Western Cape province of South Africa and our South West England region. A further visit of Vice Chancellors from the South African Western Cape universities is planned for later this year.
