Study South West Website Launched
01/08/2008
Study South West ImageHERDA-SW has unveiled the Study South West website, a portal for international students to find out more about studying, living and working in South West England.

The site has been developed in collaboration with the region’s 13 higher education institutions and it provides international students with an insight into what the region can offer in terms of its diverse coastline, cities and countryside. Students can also get practical information on the different institutions where they can study, the UK education system, visas, finance and accommodation.

The region’s higher education institutions include some of the UK’s leading teaching and research universities, as well as internationally recognised specialist colleges and institutes. They offer a huge variety of courses across many different campus environments. There are more than 18,000 international students currently studying in the South West taking courses across a wide scope of disciplines.

Visitors to the new website can access case studies of international students who have studied in the South West, video clips and links to other useful sources of advice, including the international offices of the institutions and national websites such as Education UK.

Jeffrey Palmer from Bath Spa University is one of the international students currently on a degree course in the region. He says “One of the pluses to living in the southwest of England is the easy access to many other lively and interesting places. The thriving capital city of London is only an hour and a half by train and other large cities such as Bristol and Cardiff are even closer. Smaller towns such as Wells and Glastonbury are well worth a visit as they paint a quainter picture of traditional English country life."

Study South West will allow the region’s HEIs to collectively promote themselves via national and regional organisations such as the British Council and the South West regional Development Agency.

The site can be visited at www.studysouthwest.com and if you wish to find out more about the project contact Elisenda George on 01392 454107 or email elisenda.george@herda-sw.ac.uk .
