RELAYS volunteer recognised at BBC Sports award
08/12/2009
Earlier this year Steve T'abois, a postgraduate from the University of Plymouth, scooped the prize for RELAYS Outstanding Contribution to 2012 Sporting Legacy. Steve was nominated for his hard work and dedication at the Devon Games to Inspire and Devon Ability Games to Inspire where he spent hours of his own time and effort on both festivals which were a tremendous success.

'It was from this award that Steve made the short list for the BBC West Sports Volunteer of the Year Award,' explained Leanne Dingle, Project Director of RELAYS. 'And whilst he impressed the panel of judges but unfortunately missed out on the award, the fact that RELAYS was recognised at such a prestigious event so early on in the projects life, is fantastic news.'

As part of the evening RELAYS was also given a VIP table and RELAYS volunteers were on hand from the University of Bath and the University of the West of England to help out and welcome guests to the event. RELAYS Cultural Coordinator, Arilda Tymko, also worked alongside her colleagues at Bath Spa University to put on a spectacular projection show for guests in both the reception and VIP areas.
“The evening was fantastic and it was a great opportunity for the project’s volunteers to be part of such a high profile regional event,' said Leanne.  'I hope we’ll be able to get involved with the BBC awards every year in the run up to 2012 and who knows, what success RELAYS volunteers can go on to achieve.”
