A regional event to progress plans for developing strengths in the area of academic health was held last Friday 13th February 2009 at NHS SW in Taunton.
Over 30 people from Universities and the NHS attended, and on the agenda was an overview of the bewildering series of initiatives at the academic:health interface and how they mesh together in the region, an update on the recent bid for an Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) and further information on the imminent arrival of Health Innovation and Education Clusters (HIECs).
Delegates received presentations from Sir John Tooke (Peninsula College of Medicine & Dentistry), Professor Peter Mathieson (University of Bristol) and John Bewick (NHS SW). Copies of the PowerPoint presentations given during the event are are now available covering the Academic Health Landscape in the Region, AHSC and HIECs.
A great deal of useful feedback was received on how the region should now move forward and the proposed model for future collaboration. Work will continue to develop the regional model and stakeholders will be kept up to date on the process.
