Electric December at Watershed

02 Dec 2011

Now in its thirteenth year, Electric December is an annual short film competition for young people run by Watershed in Bristol, UK. 24 highly original short films have been selected to make up the online countdown calendar, which can be watched and enjoyed on this site. You could find yourself in an animated Bangladeshi folktale, a Bristol boxing gym, drifting in the clouds with a caterpillar or back at school in a detention with a difference.

Once again Watershed has co-curated Electric December with young people from Bristol. The enthusiasm and hardwork of BTEC media students from Fairfield High School and Redland Green has played a pivotal role in making this year’s showcase a success.

The students have been involved in shooting photographs for this year’s website with acclaimed photographer Kirsty Mackay, designing promotional materials, organising and hosting a high profile launch night on the 1st December 2011 and taking part in the judging panel with the help of students from Henbury and Katharine Lady Berkeley's School.

You can read more about the student’s involvement on the Electric Ambassadors Blog.

Fairfield High School's Media Studies teacher, Andy Gove, says:
“It’s wonderful to see two diverse groups of students from different schools pull together to produce a creative project like this. They have really been inspired by working with Watershed – it’s incredible what can be achieved when working in partnership with media professionals. This invaluable experience generated by Fairfield’s ongoing partnership with Watershed has again allowed our young people to be involved with producing a real live industry event.”
