25 Jan 2012

UCP Marjon will be hosting 42 primary schools from the Plymouth and West Devon area to compete in the annual High Fives mixed netball festival. Over 300 pupils from the schools will be competing at UCP Marjon in the 2 day event from 30th - 31st January 10-3pm.

The netball festival has been organised in partnership with the Plymouth School Sports Partnership and the UCP Marjon RELAYS project. A team of volunteers from UCP Marjon and Plymouth Marjon Netball Club will be officiating and supporting event coordinator Anna Clooke from the Plymouth School Sports Partnership to deliver a successful competition. The winners of the event will progress through to the Devon School Games which forms part of the Government’s drive to increase competitive school sport to support the London 2012 Olympic Legacy.

UCP Marjon Relays project coordinator Jamie Oxley said “UCP Marjon is delighted to host and support such a fantastic sporting event. The festival not only enables primary pupils to experience competitive sport it also enables student volunteers with an excellent learning experience. With under 200 days to the Olympics the netball festival will enable primary pupils to enjoy sport and hopefully encourage them to join a local club to continue their sporting ambitions”.

Seb Coe, Chair, London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games said: “The Plymouth & West Devon Primary High Fives Festivalis encouraging hockey players from primary schools and young officials to fulfil their potential. I am proud that with the help of partners such as UCP Marjon and the Plymouth School Sports Partnership are delivering on our vision to use the power of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to boost participation in sport.”
